Accessibility

We want this site to work for everyone who needs it, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, magnification, or a browser set to reduce motion.

We are working towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We have not yet had the site audited by a third party, so we are describing what has been built rather than claiming a certificate.

What has been built in

• A skip link to the main content as the first thing a keyboard reaches on every page.
• Headings, landmarks and lists marked up as what they are, so a screen reader can navigate by structure.
• Every interactive element reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus outline that is never removed.
• Menus, accordions and the photo viewer built on native HTML elements, so browser and assistive-technology behaviour works as expected.
• Animation, including the entrance effects and anything that moves on scroll, switched off for anyone whose system asks to reduce motion.
• Photographs given descriptive alternative text, and decorative ones hidden from screen readers rather than described twice.
• Text and background colours chosen to meet AA contrast, and text that resizes without the layout breaking.

Where it falls short today

We would rather tell you about these than let you find them. We are working through them.

• The video on the careers page has no captions or transcript yet.
• The menus, activity calendars and floor plans are PDFs produced outside this site, and they have not been checked for tagging or reading order.
• The floor plan drawings are images of technical drawings. The room names and sizes are given as text beside each one, but the drawings themselves cannot be read by a screen reader.
• The site has not been tested against every screen reader and browser combination.
